How Can I Accept Payments Online?

Depending on your country, there are a few payment providers: WePay, Stripe & PayPal.

To enable any of these payment processing options, you need to click “Accept Online Payments” in your account settings. From there, you’ll be asked to complete the steps to connect your payment processing account to FreshBooks. Once you’re set up, you can accept credit card payments and bank transfer payments from your clients.

With Credit Card Processing, Does FreshBooks Support Recurring Billing?

Recurring Payments allow you to automatically charge a client’s credit card or bank transfer details on a regular basis through a Recurring Invoice. With Recurring Payments, the payment is automatically taken through the payment processor, making it ideal for subscriptions or other recurring services.

To enable Recurring Payments, you need to choose a payment processor to accept credit card payments with. Next, set up a Recurring Template or Retainer, enable an online payment option, and then send the Recurring Template or Retainer to your client.

How Long Does It Take FreshBooks to Process Payments?

It depends on your payment processor/provider and payment method. Credit card processors vary in how long it takes for credit card processing. Each of the links below has more details about how long online payments usually take to process, but in general, here’s what you can expect:

  • FreshBooks Payments allows you to accept credit cards and Bank Transfers (ACH) online. Once your client pays an invoice, the payment transaction is processed within 1-3 business days.
  • Stripe payments can take several business days to process while the Stripe payment processor team reviews the transaction to ensure the payment is safely processed. Payout schedules on Stripe credit and debit transactions differ based on whether it’s your first payout or not, and where your business is located.
  • PayPal payment transactions typically take 2-3 business days to process.

What Are Payment Schedules and How Do They Work With Card Payments?

Payment Schedules in FreshBooks allow you to create a payment plan for your Clients, so they can pay Invoices in multiple and partial instalments on dates of your choosing. If you accept credit card payments or ACH (debit card) payments for online transactions it’s super easy. This saves you from having to create multiple Invoices or continually editing an existing Invoice in the system whenever a customer needs to make a new payment.
